9 Layers of Protection For Pool-Area Safety:

Know where your child is at all times: if your child is ever out of sight, always check the pool first. Moments spent looking elsewhere for your child can mean the difference between life and death.
To keep your child from exiting the house, have child-resistant or out-of-reach latches on every door or window leading to your pool area.
In case a latch or lock was not secured, have an alarm or chime that sounds when any door or window leading to pool area is opened.
Surround your pool with a four-sided fence that isolates the pool from the rest of your yard or patio./li>
An alarm in the water or on your child will alert you if your child enters the pool unseen.
Keep a cordless phone accessible to the pool area so you can quickly call 911 if needed.
Parents and all caregivers should be trained in child CPR so that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.
Nothing that may attract your child’s curiosity should be left in the pool.
Ride-on and push toys should not be used on the pool deck.
Keep a safety pool hook near the pool in case of an emergency… especially if the parent or caregiver is not a strong swimmer.
